Around Leeds at the moment, the first signs of Spring are definitely appearing. The snowdrops are in full bloom, and daffodils are just starting to poke through the soil. Mornings and evenings are getting lighter, and – now don’t hold us to this, as it may have been a one off – some blue sky has even been seen!
Another sign of the changing seasons is the start of the colourful ‘For Sale’ signs popping up in gardens around the city. We’re reaching that time of the year when people start proactively thinking about new starts and getting their home on the market, ready for a move before the next winter hits.
It’s certainly seemed, driving around the city as we do, whether it’s Horsforth and Headingley or Garforth and Guiseley, that many of those For Sale signs are quickly turning to Sold. It would appear the property market in Leeds is moving (excuse the pun) pretty quickly!
Last year there were predictions of house prices in Leeds rising by two thirds in the next 10 years. Online estate agent emoov predicted by 2027, the average home in the city would cost £291,845, compared to the current figure of around £175,000.
Perhaps that’s no surprise given Leeds is the UK’s third largest city with a population of around 780,000, which continues to grow at a rapid pace. The population grew by 5 per cent between 2001 and 2011, and is expected to rise by a further 12 per cent by 2021. To help cope with demand, the council has set in place plans to build 70,000 new homes by 2028, in developments across the city.
In a city where space is most definitely at a premium, self storage definitely has a role to play in helping out.
Perhaps you’re living at home with your family, trying to save money to buy your own place. But your childhood bedroom isn’t really big enough for all the stuff you’ve collected over the years, and you’re also trying to build up furniture and items for your new home when you can. Self storage could give you the extra space you need, so you don’t all start climbing the walls or falling out due to the tight squeeze!
Maybe you’d like to move into a bigger home, but finding the right one, at the right price, is proving tricky. Meanwhile your current house is bursting at the seams, and you need to have a clear out for the sake of your sanity. However, there’s no point getting rid of things which will be needed when you finally get your dream home – so why not self store?
Maybe you’ve got your eye on one of the new builds, but it’s not going to be ready for at least six months. Meanwhile, you’ve got to sell your home to ensure you have the funds at the right time. Or perhaps you’d rather sell your home before you start looking for a new one, so you can go in as ‘first time buyer’ with no chain when the time comes. Either may result in you having a short stay in rented accommodation, or with a friend or family. Time to pack up your suitcase, and put the ‘non-essentials’ into storage!
Perhaps you’re starting a new business and can’t afford business premises yet, but you haven’t really got anywhere to keep stock at home. Unless you replace your sofa and bed with boxes, which may not be that comfy. Our self storage units can even have power and wifi, making it easy to log on and update stock levels, or respond to messages, as you work.
Our handy self storage centre in Leeds is based on Meanwood Road – making it easily accessible from all sides of the city, and we’ve plenty of parking. We have storage units of all shapes and sizes, and can create one to meet your requirements. With prices starting from just £6 a week, it’s a cost effective way to get the extra space you need for the time you need it. With state of the art security, and pin code access to the building, you can be sure your belongings are safe. In fact, you have the only key to your unit – we can’t even get access without you there.
So, if you feel like you need more space, why not come take a look or have a chat? We also have self storage centres in Harrogate and Wakefield – and we’re always happy to give a guided tour!
McCartheys were there to take much of the stress out of what was a very difficult time for myself and my family. All the staff were patient and understanding of our dilemma and did all they could to help.
The storage facilities were safe and very secure with easy access .
All in all a painless experience.
Would highly recommend.
Really friendly and helpful customer service and explained everything clearly. Easy to reserve and new facility in York seems well secured and easy to access, with handy equipment to use (particularly with extended hours - at additional cost). Only minor comment for improvement during these times would be to have sanitise stations near the keypads as these are touch points for everyone using the facility.
Really good service and nice units. Easy access, great location, nothing to fault
