The most romantic Valentine’s Day gift of all

Feb 14, 2018 | Storage Info

As Valentine’s Day approaches, love is in the air… or is it?

There was a survey story which caught our eye recently on the top bugbears people have when they share a house with their partner, family or friends. These are the problems that cause those niggly little arguments which can soon escalate into a full on fall out. Apparently we’re all arguing at least once a week (suspect the ‘at least’ might be quite relevant on that one!)

The research, conducted by Appliances Direct, showed that washing up caused the most arguments in the home. Other causes in the top five included what temperature to set the heating at, what to watch on TV, leaving the lights and losing the remote control (which might be linked to the earlier argument about what to watch on TV – there’s no changing channels if the remote can’t be found).

Of course, those all sound like things we’ve squabbled over at home plenty of times. But we reckon there’s a big one missing off that list. Something that causes many a row.

Clutter.

The bringer of doom, and the thing that makes you feel like your home is physically shrinking. We might be exaggerating slightly about the doom thing, but there’s no denying too much stuff can get on top of you. Literally and physically.

Maybe you’ve got a hobby – you like fixing bikes, collecting things or crafting – but your partner is sick of your bits and pieces taking over the kitchen. Perhaps you’ve downsized, and your collection of furniture hasn’t quite adjusted yet. Your seven-year old has grown out of lots of his toys and bag loads of clothes – you’ve a new baby on the way, so you want to keep them – but where? You’ve nowhere to put suitcases and holiday clothes when you’ve no holidays planned. You may have started a new business venture, selling goods online, and the stock has taken over your bedroom. And lounge. And garage. Or maybe you’re planning a house move this year and you can’t start freshening up the paintwork, or making your property look its best, until some of the ‘stuff’ is out of the way.

Imagine how great it would be to be able to take all of those things and put them in a storage unit somewhere, away from your home, but in a handy location where you can get to them any time you need. At the McCarthy’s self storage centres in Leeds, Wakefield and Harrogate we have storage units varying from the size of an old phone box to tennis courts. Prices start from just £6 a week, and for that your belongings are kept safe and secure, dry and, most importantly – NOT IN YOUR HOUSE!

Only you have access to your storage unit, and we have lifts and trolleys to help you move things quickly and easily from your car or van and back again. We can even fit units with power, light and wifi – so it could be somewhere you can do some work, or spend a quiet hour on your hobby.

So, if you’re looking for a truly romantic Valentine’s Day gift this year, one that shows you’ve thought about what would make your partner happy – call us crazy, but self storage might be the one. Roses and chocolates will be gone within the week – but a decluttered home? We reckon the joy that brings will last a lifetime!
