Bupa – operation move and store

McCarthy’s was approached by SPIRE, formerly BUPA, whilst the Roundhay Hall Hospital was refurbished. This involved moving and storing thousands of items of furniture and equipment safely and securely over a 24-month period. There was simply no room for failure here as operations were still being carried out and patient welfare was paramount.

University of Leeds – sustainable learning

The complex move from three sites into a new building, which formed McCarthy’s initial brief, quickly developed over time into a major recycling project and a challenging and extremely rewarding removal.

McCarthy’s planned the relocation of essential furniture, lab equipment, the gym, the music department, books, files, stationery and teaching materials.

Our sustainable approach to item disposal led to us finding as many homes as possible for redundant furniture and equipment, either through resale or by working with recycling partners, to avoid land fill and protect the environment.

Bishop Burton College – reading the situation

The move involved the sequential packing, removal and unpacking of the entire contents of the college library from an existing building into the new building. It involved approximately 1000 metres of sequential packing of shelves full of reference and text books and periodicals.

Storage was then required at short notice due to problems with the flooring in the new building, demonstrating the ability of McCarthy’s to react to unforeseen circumstances quickly and with minimum stress for the client.

Henry Moore Institute, The Royal Armouries and Leeds City Museum – transporting priceless treasures

McCarthy’s carries out regular moving and storage work for The Henry Moore Institute, The Royal Armouries and Leeds City Museum. A move carried out for the Leeds City Museum involved moving thousands of objects and pieces, many of which were unseen by the public at the time and are now on display, with absolute precision and care.

The care and attention in packing and moving these objects was paramount as they were, quite literally, priceless!

Clarion Solicitors – over 20 years of partnership

McCarthy’s has worked with Clarion, and formerly McCormicks for over 20 years. We carry out regular internal moves for the busy Leeds office. Our reputation for working efficiently, to deadline and on budget has helped us develop an excellent working relationship with them.

Over the last decade, we have worked to computerise and track all Clarion’s internal and client files/paperwork on to a fully managed and barcoded tracking system, which we store for them in our secure archive facility. There are regular deliveries and collections to and from their offices (sometimes within the hour when required!)

Yorkshire Water – a steady stream of jobs

McCarthy’s was awarded the Yorkshire water office moving contract for what was initially a one-year contract – eventually lasting 12 years. McCarthy’s consistently delivered on service and budget, assisting the organisation with everything from porterage works to moving whole departments and buildings.

Often when new desks and furniture systems were purchased and rolled out, McCarthy’s staff were there quietly assembling, disassembling, and recycling furniture and IT equipment.

Financial Services

Deloitte – out of hours support

We successfully carried out the major relocation from East Parade, Leeds to number 1 City Square in Leeds. This was a very large move involving thousands of crates of filing, IT equipment and archives, which had to be carried out over a specific time period. Most of that was out of regular office hours due to restrictions at City Square and to minimise the client’s downtime. McCarthy’s delivered on time, on budget and to the clients’ exact specifications.

Financial Services

Brown Butler – keeping things moving

McCarthy’s undertook a significant move for Brown Butler within Leeds City Centre – with challenging access at the loading address. It involved a tight staircase and a building straight off a bus lane! It was completed over the course of a week and throughout this time the office remained fully operational.

Financial Services

Ernst & Young – on hand to help

We were Ernst & Young’s preferred supplier for internal moves and for setting up and moving meeting rooms, interview rooms and presentation preparation, on an almost daily basis.

Food and Drink

Carlsberg – probably the best moving service in the world

McCarthy’s successfully cleared the well-known Carlsberg/Tetley Office building at Tetley House in Leeds. This was a five-day project which involved the relocation of some of the office furniture and equipment to new office facilities in Leeds and Northampton. We cleared four floors full of furniture, and responsibly disposed of anything no longer required.

Mark Chennell, Facilities Manager at the Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company, said: “We were delighted with the service delivered by McCarthy’s. The clearance of our much-loved landmark office in Leeds was no small task, but it was undertaken with care and attention to detail by a friendly and effective team. The project was completed as briefed, on time and, importantly, on budget.”

Design Tonic and the Copthorne Hotel – a late notice getaway

Design Tonic approached McCarthy’s to see if we could assist with a very last minute move. The move needed to start within 5 days and there was just a 10-day window to complete it. It was the relocation of the Copthorne Hotel in Sheffield, which consisted of 158 rooms, a gymnasium, kitchen, restaurant, bar, reception, and meeting areas needing to be fully packed up and moved into storage. With time of the essence, a full survey, removal schedule, logistics plan, and quote was provided within 24hrs. The relocation began on the required start date and was completed within the 10 day window given.

Amanda Cook, Founder at Design Tonic said: “We were asking for miracles – and that’s what McCarthy’s delivered! It was an extremely tight schedule and a huge undertaking, but McCarthy’s took it all in their stride. Everything was done and dusted in the time required, by an efficient and productive team. We couldn’t have asked for more.”

Astonish – a clean move for a fresh start

Astonish Cleaning products approached McCarthy’s to help the company relocate its offices from Woodhall Road in Bradford to its new purpose built facility in the city. The relocation consisted of moving the Sales, Finance, HR and Laboratory departments, with all their associated furniture and equipment, safely and securely.

Astonish General Manager, Mike Earnshaw, said: “We were looking for a removal firm which was friendly, efficient, offered good value for money and could be trusted to take excellent care of all of our items as we relocated. McCarthy’s delivered just that, with a successful move, completed on time and on budget.”
