Reviews & Case Studies

See how to discover more about how McCarthy’s business moving meets the needs of businesses relocating, rebuilding, refurbishing or reorganising.

Hospitals

Bupa – McCarthy’s was approached by SPIRE, formerly BUPA, hospitals whilst the Roundhay Hall Hospital was refurbished. This involved moving and storing thousands of items of furniture and equipment safely and securely over a 24 month period.

There was simply no room for failure here as operations were still being carried out and patient welfare was paramount.

Education

University of Leeds – McCarthy’s planned the relocation of essential furniture, lab equipment, the gym, the music department, books, files, stationery and teaching materials!

The complex move from three sites to the new building, which formed McCarthy’s initial brief, quickly developed over time into a major recycling project.

McCarthy’s have a well-established corporate approach to disposal and to finding a home for redundant furniture and equipment, either through resale or by working with recycling partners to avoid land fill and protect the environment. The University of Leeds really utilised and pushed these facilities to the limit for a challenging and extremely rewarding removal.

Bishop Burton College – This move involved the sequential packing, removal and unpacking of the entire contents of the college library from existing building into the new building on site. It involved approximately 1000 metres sequential packing of shelving of reference and text books and periodicals.

Storage was required at short notice due to problems with the flooring in the new building, demonstrating the ability of McCarthy’s to react to unforeseen circumstances quickly and with minimum fuss for the client.

Museums

Henry Moore Institute – McCarthy’s carries out regular moving and storage work for The Henry Moore Institute, The Royal Armouries and Leeds City Museum. A move carried out for the Leeds Museum involved moving thousands of objects and pieces, many of which at the time were unseen by the public and which are now all on display, with absolute precision and care.

The care and attention in packing and moving these objects was paramount as they were all literally priceless!

Legal

Clarion Solicitors – McCarthy’s carries out regular internal moves for Clarions’ busy Leeds office. Our reputation for working efficiently to deadlines and on budget has helped us develop an excellent working relationship with them.

Over the last ten years we have worked with Clarion, formerly McCormicks, to computerise and track all their internal and client files on to a fully managed and barcoded tracking system with regular deliveries and collections to and from their offices (sometimes within the hour when required!)

Utilities

McCarthy’s were awarded the Yorkshire water office moving contract in 2004, for what was initially a one-year contract, which lasted for 12 years. McCarthys consistently delivered on service and budget targets assisting YW with everything from porterage works in one office to moving whole departments and buildings.

Often when new desks and furniture systems were purchased and rolled out throughout the organisation McCarthy’s staff were there quietly assembling, disassembling, and recycling furniture and IT.

Financial

Ernst & Young – We are the preferred supplier for internal moves and for setting up and moving meeting rooms, interview rooms and presentation preparation.

This illustrates the scopes of work that we carry out on a daily basis.

Deloitte – We successfully carried out the major relocation from East Parade Leeds to number 1 City Square Leeds. This was a very large move involving thousands of crates of filing, It and archives.

This had to be carried out over a specific time period, most out of regular hours due to restrictions at city square and to minimise the clients downtime. Delivered on time, on budget and to the clients’ exact specifications.

Brown Butler – A large move from within Leeds City Centre with challenging access at the loading address! It involved a tight staircase and was located straight off a bus lane into newly refurbed offices. It was completed over a weeks time scale and throughout this time the office remained fully operational.

Charities

McCarthy’s has been a long standing supporter of numerous charities and we carry out regular moving work for various charities – notably the NSPCC, St Gemmas Hospice and Wheatfields Hospice.
