Take Control of your Tech

Feb 23, 2017 | Professional Shredding

We’ve all been there: whilst excitedly setting up a new computer we have a sudden thought. What will happen to our old laptop, the one that’s full of our personal and often professional information? It wouldn’t be worth risking simply throwing it into the tip, or giving it away to be recycled or reused, but what do you do instead?

That’s where McCarthy’s comes in. We are on hand to support individuals and businesses in the safe disposal of technical items and take the headache out of getting rid without compromising on security.

As criminals are becoming smarter we must too. Many crooks now have the ability to take information and customer data directly from discarded laptops or PCs, even after users think they have wiped all data.

Home users often don’t realise exactly how much of their private information is stored on their computer either. From passwords and bank details to precious pictures and video, we wouldn’t want these items to fall into the wrong hands. Within businesses, private accounts and information must also be safeguarded whilst it’s equally important to protect customer data. With companies having legal requirements to look after this data in a responsible manner, there really is no way to avoid doing so.

WEEE-logoAt McCarthy’s we can securely and confidently clear all content from hard drives, USBs, DVDs or CDs, before disposing of them. Products are also guaranteed to be dealt with in a monitored environment. All of the work we undertake is done so in accordance with the WEEE Directive. WEEE is a European Community directive on waste electrical equipment that became European Law in February 2003. This law ensures the safe destruction of electrical equipment and electronics.

As well as taking care of the physical items, we also provide customers with a certificate of safe destruction. This certificate can then be used for both your own peace of mind and as evidence that customers’ confidential information has not been compromised, and that you’re meeting environmental targets.

Along with hard drive and media shredding, McCarthy’s also provide various traditional shredding services.

Options include one-off services for at home shredders. For just £10 (plus VAT) we will post sacks out to your home which arrive complete with a confidential seal. After that all you need to do is fill up the sack and drop it back to us at our premises on Meanwood Road, Leeds. Any documents will be shredded in our CCTV monitored premises. Again, all waste collected is carefully dealt with and recycled into household products.

For our regular customers, we can provide lockable boxes to dispose of documents into. These boxes can then be emptied on a weekly, fortnightly or eight-weekly basis. Whether you choose a regular or a one-off service, once shredded we provide customers with a certificate of destruction to confirm the amount of paper and date on which documents have been shredded.

If you have any questions about media and hard drive, or traditional shredding don’t hesitate to get in touch with us on 0113 262 4000 or visit the website.
