There are lots of reasons people use our self storage facilities in Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield to store furniture. A three piece suite is unlikely to fit in your loft and storing it in a garage is likely to take up huge amounts of space, and may also leave it open to the elements (and spiders…). There’s little point storing a sofa which is going to end up smelling so damp you’d never want to give it house room again
So what are the main reasons people use self storage for furniture?
- Downsizing – if you’re moving from a larger to a smaller house, you are going to need to streamline furniture (and other possessions) somewhere along the way. However, you might not be able to decide exactly what should stay and what should go until you’ve properly moved in and lived there for a while. Self storage offers a great temporary solution while decisions are made.
- Sentimental value – a family member has passed away and you’ve inherited the antique sideboard which has been passed down through the family for generations. However, there is nowhere for it to go in your current home. That said, you would never get rid of it, and hope one day it will find a home in your house, or that it can be passed down to your own children. Self storage offers a safe and protected place to keep it until that day.
- Renovations – if you’re having work done in your house – whether it’s building a two storey extension or just giving the living room a lick of paint – it’s always better if you can empty out the relevant rooms. Self storage can keep furniture well out of the way of dust and any falling drops of paint!
- Joining forces – if you’re moving in with someone, chances are you’ll have two sets of everything to begin with. Put one lot in self storage until you decide for definite what will go where.
- Putting your house on the market – if you’re looking to sell, the first thing an estate agent will tell you is that the key to attracting a buyer’s attention is decluttering. So temporarily rid yourself of excess furniture and suddenly your home looks much larger, and Joe Bloggs can imagine himself living there with all their own bits and bobs.
- A restoring hobby – more and more people are restoring old furniture – either as a hobby or even as a profession. It stands to reason that if that’s your thing, you may have quite a lot of extra furniture hanging around, which you’ve bought from house clearances and auctions, but not yet had time to restore. You don’t want it to deteriorate after being stored in an inappropriate place, such as a garage, so self storage offers a great solution. If you have a unit with enough space, you can even use it to do the work in.
