As one year ends and another year begins it’s always useful to reflect on the good, the bad and the downright ugly! Thankfully as we look back on 2017, it’s been a year full of positives here at McCarthy’s, and we approach 2018 excited and eager to see what lies in store (especially as it’s a BIG birthday year for the company – we’ll have been around half a century!)

Looking back at 2017, our ever helpful removal teams have moved over 2,500 households and businesses across Yorkshire, the UK and even internationally (maybe we’ll let them put their feet up over the Christmas break…). That probably means they moved around 75,000 boxes and crates, keeping them safe and sound until they reached their destination. But boxes aren’t all they moved – over the summer alone there were 45 pianos, four safes, 20 ATMs, a collection of 8,000 vinyl records and even a V6 car engine. Whatever you need moving, you can trust us to make it happen!

Of course moving is thirsty work – 11,000 cups of tea were drunk by our removals guys! We hate to think how many custard creams were consumed…

And despite enquiries being down (as the property market quietened post-election and pre-Brexit), we were busier than ever – which we think is down to our wonderful, helpful team, so thank you everyone from the front desk to the men on the ground.

Our storage centres have also been busy, with Wakefield and Leeds continuing to be almost at capacity all year round. Our Harrogate storage centre has been so popular we had to build more personal and business storage units – increasing capacity by a whopping 50 per cent!

Our document management service has seen more than 10,000 new archive boxes enter document storage – and we can still lay our hands on any paperwork our clients need in 15 minutes.

We’ve continued to shred confidential waste for companies across Leeds and Yorkshire – 400,000KG of waste paper has gone off to be recycled, and will come back as toilet paper or paper towels. Bear that in mind next time you’re in the smallest room – who knows what it was before!

So, thank you to our fantastic customers and clients, big and small, and we hope you’ve been delighted with the service you’ve received from the McCarthy’s team this year. We look forward to seeing you in 2018!
