This week marked Ask a Question Day – the day when you’re encouraged to ask away! No question is too big, too small…or too daft. Well, maybe some questions are too daft, but mostly it’s encouraging people to ask things they might otherwise feel they can’t.
Last year we did a post all about some of the questions we get asked most often, which you can read here. It answers lots of burning questions about moving, self storage and shredding.
So, we thought in honour of Ask a Question Day 2018, we’d add some extra questions which we’ve been asked recently, in the hope they might help someone find the answer they’ve been looking for.
I’ve heard about video surveys being used in relation to home removals, but I don’t really understand what they are, or how they’d help me?
A video survey is a new service we can offer when people ask us to quote for their home removal. Obviously to provide a quote for anyone we have to have some idea of what their home is like and how much there is to move.
Traditionally one of our experienced estimators would pop round to see you at home. Now, they can do it over a face-to-face phone call, a bit like FaceTime or Skype. It just uses a really simple app on your smartphone. It allows us to get the information we need, but, most importantly, it allows us to be much more flexible in terms of fitting in with your busy schedule. We can provide quotes more easily for people who live further afield. It should also help speed up the process from requesting a quote to receiving it, which is great if you’ve got a short notice move on your hands!
Having a recorded copy to refer back to (which we only keep for the duration of the process) allows us to be much more accurate on the quotes we provide. We can even work from a video upload if you’re unable to do a call.
But don’t worry – you don’t have to do a video survey, and if you’d prefer a visit, or don’t have the appropriate technology, we will happily come out to see you.
I need to pack up my house, but I don’t have any boxes or materials. How am I best getting these?
As you’d expect, we class ourselves as being a bit of an expert in removals and all things packing. We can of course offer a full packing service, but understand that many people want to do this themselves, particularly if they want to combine packing with a clear out. One thing we always say is you need to make sure your packaging is good quality. Cheap, flimsy boxes are false economy, and you’ll end up needing twice as many – as well as potentially damaging your precious belongings. And don’t forget the bubble wrap or tissue paper for your breakables! But have no fear, all of our self storage centres have an on site shop which sells everything you might need. You can also order them online via our Box Shop – there’s now free delivery when you spend over £50, so you can get it sent straight to your door. Saves you hassle, and you know you’re getting the right tools for the job!
I think a storage unit might be really helpful, as we’re thinking of moving home so we need to seriously declutter! But I’ve no idea what size I’d need or what the prices would be. How would I find out?
Self storage comes in handy in so many different scenarios. Moving home and wanting to declutter to get the best possible sale is very common. Other people need a more permanent place to declutter to, for others they have business-related items they need to keep somewhere. On our website you’ll find we have a book storage online page. On it you choose the size you want (don’t worry we have images and explanations showing how much the square footage compares to), give us some idea of when and for how long you might need it (just a rough guide – we don’t hold you to it!) and a few details and we can get you an instant quote for our Harrogate, Leeds or Wakefield branches. Couldn’t be easier!
I’ve heard a lot in the news about GDPR. What are McCarthy’s doing about it?
GDPR has been in the news a lot recently and it’s top of mind for a lot of businesses and consumers. May 25th is D Day which will be here before you know it. We have a page here which talks through everything we are doing as a business to protect the confidential information we have, and we can also provide guidance and assistance to businesses who may be looking at confidential waste shredding or document management as part of their own GDPR planning.
If you’ve got another question you want to ask the team, why not drop us a line, give us a call, or have an online chat? We’re here to help!
