The Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend means two things – barbecues and DIY! It’s all about finding the time to relax and enjoy some time with your friends and family, but also squeezing in a few chores too. Sticking to such a busy schedule can take some planning, so here’s our suggested checklist on the home improvement front.

Paint the spare room

It’s time to give a lick of paint to the forgotten room – the one that has scribbles and handprints on the walls, the one that hasn’t been touched since you moved in years ago. Painting is always easiest when the furniture is out of the way and all the little bits are tidied up, so this is the first job on your to do list.

If you have a room in your home to keep your bits together then that would be perfect, a garage will also work, but if you’re short on space you could consider local self-storage solutions. If you have the time and energy you could install some hooks to hang your gardening tools off or put up some new shelves to hold your newly cleaned and organised items. Do the gardening

Not so much of a chore really, gardening can be relaxing so take the time to enjoy it. Buy some seeds or seedlings in advance and make sure you have some compost (peat free ideally), so you are all ready to start. Try to use some recycled pots or trays (empty yoghurt pots are good) and wait patiently for the fruits of your labours to start sprouting.

Have a BBQ

When the tidying is all done, and the garden is looking the best it’s looked in months you have to make time to sit back and enjoy it. Bank holidays and barbecues are perfect partners, so pile up the coals and grab some fire lighters.
