The parish of Weeton, which includes neighbouring village Huby, is home to almost a thousand residents according the 2011 census who are largely commuters using the A61 main road between Leeds and Harrogate. Despite this, Weeton has no pub, shop or post office although there are nearby amenities that cater to these needs. The first mention of Weeton was in the Domesday Book and the name seems to derive from the worlds for “Willow” “Farm”.

But the main attraction is a rocky outcrop that is situated on a small hill called Almscliffe Crag. The crag appears on many hiking trails around the area and provides superb panoramic views of the Wharfedale valley. Almscliffe Crag is also widely seen as one of the best rock climbing locations in the area and it’s a rarity to pay a visit without rock climbers being present.
