Last week we wrote a post about the most expensive streets in Leeds. We thought it was only fair to look at the home of one of our other McCarthy’s Storage World sites – Wakefield!
We spotted a great article on the Wakefield Express website all about the places to live in the area which will set you back a fair few pennies, which used Mouseprice.com, a website that calculates the average cost of streets using selling prices and how often houses change ownership.
It turns out Wakefield is the place to be if you’re looking to hang out with those in the millionaires’ club. The area’s five most expensive streets boast a WF postcode.
Topping the list of the most prestigious areas to own a property is Woolley, which boasts a whopping four of the top five streets on the list. Seven miles south of Wakefield, it’s easy to see why this pretty village of 1,350 people is so popular. With stunning, and sizeable, houses, beautiful countryside and just two miles away from the motorway, it’s a great combination (and yes, it is by Woolley Edge Services!). Woolley Park is the most expensive road with a £1.28m average house price, followed by Woolley Edge Lane (£1.24m). Then in fourth place is Seckar Lane at £873K with Kirkby Lane in fifth place at £848K.
Woolley is the place to be!
If not in Woolley, how about the semi rural village of Upper Hopton in Mirfield (WF14), which also scored well, securing the third place spot. Homes on Chapel Hill average a £1,151,289 price tag. A gold award winner at Yorkshire in Bloom for many years, the village is well situated, convenient, friendly and picturesque. Sign us up.
There’s a lot going for the Wakefield area, not least fantastic transport links – being only minutes from the M1, M62 and A1. Being in prime commuter land, and with many areas having a lower price tag than Leeds, it’s looking increasingly popular to househunters. With other great family-friendly places to live in the Wakefield area including Sandal, Horbury, Newmillerdam, Walton, Wrenthorpe, Outwood, Ossett and Flockton, there’s something for everyone.
But don’t worry if your budget doesn’t quite stretch to Woolley prices – the average house price in Wakefield is £193,037 according to Zoopla and the best value street in Wakefield is in WF2, with a property on Bentley Road costing on average just £35,700.
Of course, one way to bag a bargain is to buy a do-er upper. Many of our self storage units at McCarthy’s Storage World on Kirkgate, bang in Wakefield city centre, are used by homeowners putting their belongings and furniture in storage while they renovate, decorate, extend or convert. Many other customers use us for business storage – perhaps they previously worked at home but were sick of stock taking over the spare room and paperwork spread over the kitchen table. With prices starting from just £6 a week, convenient location, ample parking and great public transport links, we aim to make life easier for you. Only you have the key to your storage unit, and there’s unique pincode access to the warehouse. There’s CCTV and security monitoring 24-hours a day and you can come and go as you please, to suit your needs.
And if you’re planning a move to Wakefield, we know a great BAR-registered removal firm who can help get you and your worldly possessions safely transported from A to WF. We can help with long and short-term storage if dates don’t quite tie up, and we can probably help recommend the best local chippy and pub too. McCarthy’s – always happy to go the extra mile!
