Ho ho ho – Merry Christmas! Or is it still too soon?

Maybe a bit. But undoubtedly homes up and down the country are this week heading into their lofts and garages to retrieve damp, dusty boxes of Christmas ornaments to decorate their homes. For some it may be the annual visit into the loft – the rest of the year seeing it steadfastly ignored. So what are all the rest of those boxes up there?? Old school books? Documents and paperwork? Old baby toys long outgrown? By a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t looked at it in a year, you’re probably not going to look at it in the next year. Could you not be doing something more exciting with your loft? An extension? An extra room? Somewhere to set up a Scalextric super track? (or is that just me?)

A bit like self storage units, lofts can be a tardis for all kinds of hidden treasures. But you’re never going to find them if you only go up there once a year to dig out the tinsel. A lot of people use our storage units as a halfway house….somewhere to store things while they make up their minds what to do with them. They may not be sure if they’re quite ready to part with Aunt Gladys’ old tea set, or whether they really need those spare pairs of curtains, so by putting them somewhere away from the home, but, if they choose, on a time limit, they can work out what they want to do whilst enjoying the benefits of a decluttered loft and home.
At this time of year the other benefit of a storage unit is it providing somewhere to hide presents from prying eyes. The kids probably already know all your usual hiding spots, and it can be quite tricky finding somewhere to camouflage a goal post or drum kit, so self storage can provide a great solution! You can even stop there to do all the wrapping – a bit of Christmas music on the iPod and it’s just like Santa’s Workshop!
