Store Up Your Christmas Cheer

Dec 14, 2017 | Storage Info

A story caught our eye this week – all around the most hated Christmas presents people have ever received.

After initially thinking ‘how ungrateful’, once we’d read the list we kind of had to agree…

The research, conducted by love it or hate it brand Marmite, revealed that some poor people had received a tax disc holder (particularly useless nowadays), a pair of rubber gloves, cat litter and anti-cellulite cream. Just how naughty had they been to get on that list?!

But in terms of general presents we all apparently hate to receive, the list contained novelty aprons, slippers, out of date food items, botox, a mop and bucket (?!), homemade jams, workout DVDs, and anything open, used or second hand. Only me that loves getting new slippers and a jar of my sister-in-law’s amazing strawberry jam then?

It’s all a bit of fun, but what it does reveal is that apparently each of us get at least three presents we hate each year. So, what do you do with them? Apparently a third of us re-gift, and a third give it to the charity shop. But we’re willing to guess there’s a lot of unwanted gifts just hanging round in our homes, waiting to find a new home one way or another.

That’s the thing about the festive season – there’s always so much extra ‘stuff’. From Christmas trees and wreaths, to outdoor lights and that giant wooden reindeer you put in the garden… and that’s just the decorations. There’s presents – ones to be hidden ahead of the big day – and ones to be hidden after the big day, so the research seems to suggest. There’s your ever-growing collection of Christmas jumpers, which can only be worn for a month a year, and ski jackets and snow boots galore.

Which is when self-storage comes in!

What better place to store your seasonal bits and bobs that somewhere secure, safe and – importantly – not taking up any room in your house! Our self storage centres in Harrogate, Leeds and Wakefield all have units of varying sizes (not sure how much Christmas stuff you have – maybe you are that person on our street with an entire life-size winter wonderland scene on their front garden), which are accessible as you need them, and only by you. So, if you realise at 10pm on Christmas Eve that you’ve left an important pressie there, you can still get access.

Prices start from just £6 a week and if you decide you don’t need it any more we need just two weeks’ notice. Simple, straightforward and uncomplicated!

It’s perfect for your winter goods but also your summer bits and bobs – suitcases, beach towels, bikinis, garden furniture – might feel like a while until you’ll get to use those again! So, why have them cluttering up your home for the months of the year they’re not needed?

If you feel the walls are closing in with all the Christmas extras everywhere why not get in touch via our chat button? We can help advise on our Wakefield, Leeds and Harrogate centres and answer any questions you might have.

And if you’re the recipient of some of those ‘most hated’ presents you can always put them away in there until next December, ready to re-gift!
