Saturday 19th August marks World Photo Day. They say a picture paints a thousand words….and we’re inclined to agree! Sometimes a picture can tell a story which would be so much harder to explain without a visual aid.
With that in mind, we thought the pictures below did a great job of explaining some of the things we do here at McCarthy’s.
This is our Bedford removal van and it has a great claim to fame. It is, in fact, the oldest working removals van in the country! It was made in 1937 and it was 1967 when it joined our fleet. It’s still working today, although it only gets taken out on occasional jobs. We think it deserves a semi-retirement after the thousands of moves it’s handled over the years!
This photo shows some self storage customers on the move! At all of our self storage sites in Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield we have a variety of trolleys available to help you move things from your vehicle to your storage unit. There’s sizable lifts so you don’t have to make multiple trips – and in fact we can even provide drive up units in some cases so you can reverse up to the door and load/unload as needed. (Note – our units are perfect for storing most of the boxes and bits and pieces on this trolley – but we draw the line at your other half!)
Boxes as far as the eye can see…. This photo shows one of our archiving warehouses. We help companies manage their documents. For some businesses the amount of paperwork can be overwhelming – particularly public sector and professional services. Obviously files have to be kept for a certain number of years, but to store them all in the office would leave no room for anything else – and be a prohibitively expensive use of space! We can archive your documents for you – whether it’s a couple of boxes or a van full, we can help keep them safe, categorized and out of your way. This photo shows one of our team, Fran, using our state of the art cataloguing technology. When we receive a box, we scan a dedicated barcode so we know exactly where it is. Then if you need to access it again in the future, we can find it straight away and arrange to get it to you. We can even set an automatic reminder so that if your files are no longer needed after a certain length of time they are appropriately destroyed (lucky we have an industrial shredder on site!)
This is a photo of our latest project in process. This is a purpose-built self storage facility which has just (literally in the last few days!) opened in Harrogate. Built behind our existing self storage centre on Ripon Road, it will double the amount of storage space we can offer. Which is a good job, as we were constantly at full capacity and now we can offer space to the many local businesses and individuals who need it. There’s even a 4,000 sq ft warehouse up for grabs. This photo shows the build part-way through, when we started to get very excited about how the finished building was going to look – and hopefully our first customers are now settling in nicely!
This is a photo of one of our shredding vans arriving back at the depot. Customers sometimes wonder what happens to their paperwork once it leaves their premises. Well, wonder no more! This is one of our on-site shredding vans. We’ve taken the confidential waste from a customer’s premises, and shredded it directly in the van on their doorstep. The shredded paper is then taken to our dedicated shredding facility, where it is bundled into bails before being sent off for recycling – often into toilet rolls and paper towels. As well as on site shredding, we also offer services where we shred the paper in our warehouse – either way the paper is kept 100% safe until its destruction. We provide you with a certificate so you know it’s been destroyed and recycled – which can be useful for your own data protection and environmental targets.
