Whether you were an in or an out, whichever way the EU referendum went it was always going to raise questions about how the result would affect the property market. Whether house prices are rising or falling seems to be almost as popular a topic with Brits as the weather!
Earlier this week Rightmove released information which indicated that the UK’s decision to leave the EU may have triggered a fall in house prices. The average value of property marketed in the last four weeks dropped 1.2 per cent to £304,222 in August from £307,824 in July.
However, this decline may be due to a notoriously quiet sales period rather than the recent political climate. As most homes are marketed in the Spring, with completions occurring in the summer months, our personal experience as removals experts would corroborate that this time of year attracts more movers rather than sellers. Summer holidays make viewings difficult, and some choose to use a bit of time off to catch up with pre-selling DIY and de-cluttering – none of which is very helpful if you want to push through a quick sale. So we might have to wait until Autumn to get a better idea of what affect – if any – the referendum has on the market.
But, as a potential summer slump isn’t affecting movers with a chain already in place, McCarthy’s is on hand to assist. In 2015 our removals team reported one of its busiest summers to date, with the peak season continuing throughout September and into the start of October – and it seems this year will follow suit.
After moving more than 150,000 households from across the UK we consider ourselves to be somewhat experts in the industry. We know that buying, selling and changing homes can be stressful but with McCarthy’s we’ll do everything we can to make it as painless as possible. If you need a removal service look no further. We employ professional ‘move coordinators’ whose role it is to look after you from your initial enquiry right through to the big day itself. They are on hand throughout the process to answer any questions you may have and to ensure that the whole experience is as stress-free and smooth-running as possible. They work alongside a team of dedicated drivers and packers who will carefully collect up your precious items and take them to their new home.
Those wishing to hire a van and drive themselves can rent a Luton Transit van from either our Leeds or Harrogate branches. The vehicle comes complete with a tail lift and can be leased from one to seven days so if you would like to take your time you can! If you simply need an extra pair of hands for a few hours our man and van service could be the perfect solution. Our handy helpers will assist in carrying and maneuvering your objects ahead of taking them to their final location.
Whilst the market remains somewhat uncertain some are choosing to sell up and rent whilst they wait for their dream home to appear on the market. For those choosing this option, storage can be an excellent solution. McCarthy’s can pack and remove any belongings which won’t be needed in the near future and take them straight into secure storage at one of our sites in Leeds, Harrogate or Wakefield.
We also offer a self-storage solution that allows customers to lease a space ranging from that the size of a phone box right up to a tennis court. Storage rooms are secure and come complete with 24-hour CCTV security and access for customers at any time of the day or night.
So, as we await further information following Brexit there is no need for fear, with McCarthy’s you’re always in safe hands.
Jodie and Sarah were fantastic. They managed to sort out a storage unit for me straight away and even stayed after they should have shut to help me out. I would have been absolutely stuck if they hadn’t gone the extra mile.
It’s rare these days to get that level of service. MASSIVE thank you.
Really good service and would recommend them without hesitation
The staff are friendly and helpful (Huddersfield). My belonging are very safe and secure with loads of cameras and you can't enter without a person code. The storage rooms are nice and dry so all the stuff are safe from damp and mold ect.
I would definitely recommend and the price was great.
