There was lots of talk last year about how the property market had been subdued by fears around Brexit and the election and what that might mean for us all. People were feeling nervous to take the plunge on a house move, waiting to see what might happen.
Of course, despite December’s election and Brexit having happened, we still don’t really know what lies ahead. However, if figures from Zoopla are anything to go by, things in the property market are already looking more positive! The company’s UK Cities Index showed buyer demand was around 26 per cent higher in the first few weeks of 2020 than it was in the same period in either of the last two years. December was also a good month, with house price growth across UK cities hitting a two year high.
Leeds saw property values rise by 3.6 per cent between December 2019 and
December 2020, and now has an average property price of £169,000. It is seventh
in the list of top 20 cities for house price growth according to Zoopla.
According to popular property site Rightmove, visits to its website surpassed 150 million for the first time in January – seven per cent up on January 2019. There were over 5.7 million views on the busiest day alone (January 29th – perhaps as pay day crept closer!)
Given we’re now heading towards Spring, which is traditionally the busiest time of the year for the property market, it all seems to bode well.
Perhaps you put your plans on hold in 2019, but now it’s time to make a move? At McCarthy’s we’re here to help every step of the way. The first time many property owners contact us is to enquire about self storage as they look to prepare their home ready to hit the market. As Kirstie and Phil have repeatedly told us, decluttering is key and helping your home to look neutral, airy and spacious is vital if you want to achieve the best possible sale. So, a clear out to a self storage unit means you don’t have to get rid of things you want to keep, but your house can become a minimalist haven during the sales process!
The benefit of using our storage centres in Leeds, Harrogate, Wakefield and, soon, York, mean you can access your belongings whenever you need them, but when you don’t they’re kept safe and secure and (most importantly) out of your way! All of our storage centres are based in easy to reach locations with plenty of free parking, and lifts and trolleys to help you get your belongings to their storage unit. There’s no lengthy contracts required and you only pay for the time you need.
Of course, once your property is sold we can also help with the move itself – there’s not much we haven’t seen in our more than 50 years experience in home removals. As spring and summer are our busiest times it’s never too early to get in touch and find out more about the service we offer. We can provide you with a quick quote online, or a more detailed quote based on a visit or even a video survey and then we can get you booked in. Even if you’re not yet sure on your moving date, it’s worth speaking to us – we don’t want you to find we’re fully booked so we’ll always work with you to make sure you’re sorted.
So, if we can help make your 2020 moving dreams come true – get in touch!
