Yorkshire – the rural dream

Nov 25, 2020 | Feature Locations Series, Moving

The perfect house has been much discussed since the start of the pandemic.  Spending more time at home – with restrictions in place about what you can do outside of it – has thrown the importance of where we live into sharp focus.

Not only is it suddenly important that we have space to work (and potentially space to home-school), outdoor space has become much more important. We all want a nice garden to enjoy in peace, but we also want somewhere nice to go and have a walk, in a time when walks became the most exciting of trips out for everyone. Living somewhere jam-packed full of people with busy pavements to negotiate suddenly seemed a lot less appealing than somewhere where you could leave your front door and be in fresh air and open countryside, or on the seafront, in minutes.

Of course, this has meant certain locations have fared better than others when it comes to the current boom in the property market. And Yorkshire is one of those locations which has it all. The benefit of large cities and facilities when needed, but plenty of beautiful scenery and wide open spaces to enjoy. It’s a region where it’s easy to live in the countryside but commute into one of the major cities (although commuting may be less of an issue with more people likely to be working remotely on a permanent basis).

One report says the number of people currently living in London who now fancy renting a place in York instead is 26 times higher than this time a year ago. Data from Savills/TwentyCi identified the most in-demand locations outside of the South East, and beautiful, rural Ryedale in Yorkshire came in third (up 205 per cent).

That information is backed up by data from Home.co.uk which shows that Yorkshire is the UK’s top-performing region for house price growth, up 8.8 per cent year on year, bringing the average house price to £220,099.

Whether it’s the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors National Parks, the pretty villages scattered around the region, the boutique town of Harrogate, historic York, bustling Leeds – Yorkshire has a lot to offer, so it’s no surprise to us that sales are booming. The difficulty would be deciding where to settle! (The market town of Settle is quite nice actually…)

And we’re certainly noticing it on the removals side of the business, where things are busy. We often move people around the region, but also from outside in – after all, if you’re going to have a requirement for storage as part of your move, it makes sense to have it nearer your new home.

If you’re planning a move to or within Yorkshire and you need a removal firm, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help. We can even do video surveys of your home to provide you with an accurate quote, answer any questions and to provide you with all the information you might need. So, get in touch and let us see if we can make your Yorkshire dream come true!
