Crack out the instant noodles, set your alarm for that early lecture and dust off your forgotten text books, tomorrow it’s World Student Day! On the 15th October universities across the globe will celebrate multiculturalism, diversity and cooperation amongst students worldwide.
The idea for World Student Day (WSD) was originally developed by a group of undergraduates from the University of Prague who wanted to commemorate the lives of fellow students killed in WWII. Since then, WSD has grown in popularity, becoming a regular fixture in the education calendar as universities use the opportunity to appeal to prospective students, receive feedback from current ones and share news of the good they do for their local communities. The day is also used to increase awareness of how a university education could assist in improving the lives of people all over the globe.
However, aside from the good points of uni, of which there are many, the notoriously short term times coupled with the sheer amount of clothes, kitchenware, books and everything else students accumulate means that lugging everything home every couple of months can be tricky. Even more so for international students!
