Why Yorkshire is a great place to move

Mar 17, 2022 | Moving

When Tatler recently revealed Yorkshire as being THE place to live, most of us already here didn’t bat an eyelid. We know how lucky we are to be living in God’s Own County!

Although the article spoke from the point of view of titles and grand houses, many of the wider things it talked about are the reasons we love Yorkshire. Amazing countryside and incredible landscapes. A stunning coastline. More stately homes and castles than you can shake a stick at. Pretty market towns and bustling city centres. Add in the lovely, down to earth people, and what more could anyone want? Places like York, Harrogate, Horsforth, Richmondshire, Skipton and Helmsley regularly top the list of the best places to live in the country for good reason.

We’re the home of such icons as Bettys and Yorkshire puddings. We have sporting heroes galore – if Yorkshire were a country we’d usually score pretty highly on the Olympics’ medal table! We’re the birthplace of icons such as Sean Bean, Dame Judy Dench, Sir Patrick Stewart and Brian Blessed. For art fans there’s the Hepworth Gallery and the Sculpture Park and in fact David Hockney and Damien Hirst hark from Yorkshire.

Of course, Yorkshire is a vast county (the biggest in England, actually) with a great amount of variation. We cover Yorkshire removals the length and breadth of the region.

We were interested to read this article in the Yorkshire Post which looked at the best and worst places in the region for first time buyers. If you’re looking for value for money Barnsley, Hull, Calderdale and Bradford were found to be the most affordable, whilst at the other end of the spectrum Ryedale (home to Helmsley and Malton), York, Richmondshire and Harrogate were at the pricier end of things. With average house prices ranging from £115,000 to £213,000 there’s quite a difference – but nowhere near the prices of the South East.
