There can be many reasons it’s time for a business to move premises. Although it’s something which can seem utterly daunting, sometimes you’ve got to bite the bullet and make that move.
Some of the more common reasons for an office move which we hear from our business customers are:
- A lack of space – hopefully, your business is growing. What might have been ample space a few years ago may seem like a tight squeeze now a few extra people have joined the team.
- A lack of facilities – perhaps your business does things slightly differently now to how you started out, and you don’t have the facilities available that you need. Or it could be something as simple as not enough plug sockets for all your technology, a lack of parking or insufficient space for rest facilities for staff. Sometimes it’s possible to adapt your current premises – but often it makes more sense to find a building which works for you as it is.
- The location isn’t working out – this can be for any number of reasons. Perhaps you didn’t realise how bad the traffic got around the area, and it’s becoming an issue for staff and visitors. Perhaps it takes too long to get to the motorway network, which is costing you valuable time and resource. Or maybe the area you’re based in has proven to be unsafe, and your building has been vandalised or even broken into. Whatever the reason, it might be time to find a better spot. As Kirsty and Phil say – it’s all about location, location, location.
- The ‘Shabby Chic’ look is not your thing – perhaps the landlord hasn’t kept up to repairs, and everything is looking tired. If it’s not in your remit or responsibilities to do the work, it might be time to find somewhere with more of the chic and less of the shabby. First impressions count, and you might not want to take the risk if you have clients visiting your office.
- Making some money – maybe you own the property and need to release equity, or you’re renting but want to bring down your monthly rent bill. Sometimes moving just makes financial sense.
- Consolidation – perhaps the reason behind the move is a practical one – you’re bringing together satellite offices, or merging with another enterprise.
Although there can be any number of reasons to make the move, many businesses still put it off. The thought of physically moving an entire office can be intimidating and overwhelming – especially if that means work has to stop while it takes place. There’s never going to be a good time for that!
But here at McCarthy’s we try and take away a lot of the stress, and with meticulous planning, we can minimise the disruption to your business. We can offer advice on how to ensure work continues while the move takes place, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly and efficiently the move itself can be handled. Whether you’re relocating from York to Leeds, or Harrogate to London, we can help make it a smooth move.
We are proud to have been one of the first companies in the UK to be awarded the prestigious BS:8522 British Standards for Business Moving and Storage, and we are also members of the British Association of Removers commercial moving group CMG. So, if you’ve been putting off making the move – maybe the new year is the time for a fresh start?
