You may only just have put your Christmas tree up…but what are you going to do with it when it’s done?!
If you love a real Christmas tree (you can’t beat the smell, can you?) then chances are, like us, you have that dilemma come January 5th of what to do with it once the festive season is over. Plant it? Bin it? Leave it outside and hope it kind of disappears?
Well this year we have the perfect solution! And the bonus is you get to help one of the region’s most worthy charities and the environment at the same time.
This year we’re working with St Gemma’s Hospice on its Christmas Tree Collection service, a simple but fantastic concept that asks for a donation in return for the ease of having your tree picked up and recycled at council waste sites.
St Gemma’s Hospice (www.st-gemma.co.uk), based in Moortown, Leeds, provides the best possible care and quality of life for local people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Care provided is free of charge to patients and their families so St Gemma’s relies on donations and local fundraising initiatives in the community.
If you live in the below postcodes and want to take part in the scheme then register your collection at www.st-gemma.co.uk/treecollection. The collection dates will be 9th and 10th January 2015 for LS6, LS7, LS8, LS14, LS15, LS16, LS17, LS18, LS19 and LS20.
St Gemma’s aims to register as many Christmas Trees as possible to follow in the footsteps of East Cheshire Hospice, who started the project 14 years ago and recently raised over £71,000 from one collection.
We’re lending a van and some men to help collect all the trees – and we’re hoping they’ll be kept nice and busy! Even though January still seems a long way off, spaces are already booking up…
