Getting Your House Sale Moving

It’s still the case that Spring is the most popular time to put your property up for sale in the UK. But even if yours isn’t on the market, yet you would love to be in a new pad by autumn, then you haven’t left it too late.

Here at McCarthy’s we deal with thousands of homeowners every year. Some contact us early in the process, which we’d always recommend. If you know you are planning on moving, even if no date has been set, if we have a chat about what you need and provide a quote now, then it will be much easier and quicker to book with us when the time comes.

We’ve all heard the buzzwords and catchphrases like kerb appeal and location, location, location, but what do you need to do to get your house sold asap? Here are our top tips:

  • Kerb appeal is real – make sure your front garden is neat and tidy, paintwork and windows are clean and fresh and that pathways and driveways are clear and accessible. First impressions count.
  • Minimalistic matters – potential buyers need to feel your home is spacious, and the best way to do that is by decluttering. Don’t just move things into the garage or hide them in cupboards (which viewers may want to peek in), hire a self-storage unit to move them completely out of the way until the house is sold. The bonus is, if you realise you’ve moved something you need, you can easily get it back any time you need it.
  • The little things count – make sure that broken fixture is replaced, paintwork is touched up and everything works as it should. Although 1 Removals Team editedthey’re only small jobs, potential buyers could be put off wondering if there’s bigger things lurking undone.
  • A blank canvas – remember that not everyone will share your taste in wallpaper and some might be put off if it seems like a big job to remove it. If you think your décor might not appeal to everyone, best to go back to neutral in a bid to bring in the highest possible offers.
  • Baking bread and brewing coffee – house sellers always used to be told to bake or have coffee brewing to create a delicious, homely smell. Well unless your potential buyer doesn’t like coffee of course. You don’t have to go this far, but make sure you’ve deep cleaned everything you can in order for it to smell and look fresh as a daisy! Some fresh flowers will never go amiss either.
  • Light ‘em up – You want your home to look bright and airy, so ensure lights are working, windows are clean and blinds and curtains are open. The clever use of mirrors can also create a feeling of light and space.
  • Getting value from your viewings – make sure everything is spick and span when it comes to any viewings. Children, pets and ‘unnecessary’ extra bodies should be sent elsewhere so the house doesn’t feel cramped, and in case buyers are put off by the thought of animals. If that’s going to be an issue, consider an open house so the viewings are all done in one go.
  • Remember you get what you pay for – if you opt for the cheapest of everything, from estate agents to removals firms – you may not get the service you need. Go for quality not price, and it should pay dividends in the long run.

Follow those tips and your house will be sold before you know it! So why not give us a call to discuss your removal requirements today? We are a full member of the British Association of Removers (BAR). They set the professional standards for the industry and members must sign up to a Code of Practice to ensure the highest levels of customer service. It’s reassurance to you that you will get the very best.

Great service from start to finish. From signing up to the refund of the deposit at the end. We will certainly recommend and use again if needed. The offer we got initially was great and when we cancelled as we no longer needed it, we were offered a little more time too. very good indeed.
