Is 2020 the year of the big move for you? Perhaps you need a bigger house – or it’s time to downsize. Maybe you’re thinking about moving for schools, or you fancy a change of scenery. Whatever your reason, the Christmas holidays is a good time to start planning – which is probably why the period between Christmas and New Year is so busy for websites like Rightmove!
An article caught our eye in the Yorkshire Post a couple of weeks ago, looking at average house prices in the region, and the cheapest – and most expensive – postcodes in Yorkshire.
The average price of a house in Yorkshire and the Humber is now more than £192,700 according to online estate agent Housesimple. North Yorkshire boasts the more expensive average price at £266,500 – helped no doubt by the awards Harrogate keeps winning for being the best place to live in the country, as well as the many beautiful villages and towns across the region.
Lincolnshire had the most affordable average house price at £154,600 – but in terms of an actual town or city, Bradford topped the bill. BD1 has the lowest average property price at £73,200, with other areas including Hull, Grimsby, Cleethorpes and some areas of Sheffield which were potentially good locations for first time buyers looking to get a step on the property ladder.
Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the HG3 postcode remained the most expensive ‘average price’ postcode at £395,300. S17 in Sheffield followed, along with LS22 in Leeds, which includes Collingham, Wetherby and Linton.
And there’s positive predictions from real estate experts at JLL who believe house prices will rise almost 15 per cent over the next five years, with Yorkshire and the Humber expected to be one of the regions to outperform the others. The company also expects rental growth to improve by 12 per cent over the same time period, meaning it could be a good time to think about investing in a rental property.

Initially used for storage following relocation and team in Harrogate couldn’t have been more helpful and efficient. Storage facilities spotless and good security.
Then used for removal and again guys were on time, friendly, and got the job done quickly with no problems.
Only issue was having to contact 4 times to get someone to give me a quote for the removal. Received no call backs until I got very frustrated on my fourth call - not everyone would give that many chances.
Excellent, and professional from start to finish.definately recommend
A very friendly and efficient service. We were desperately in need of a storage unit and a 'man and van' to help us clear the house of a relative who had recently died. We could not have asked for better support. The unit was booked, and the storage staff directed us to the removals reception who promptly found an available van. The removal men and van were also great. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.
