Why Leeds is a great place to set up a business

We were reading an article in the fantastic Yorkshire Post a couple of weeks ago which confirmed something we’ve long known – Leeds is a great place to set up a business.

As a family business, we launched in Leeds just over 50 years ago, and we’ve never looked back – although we have expanded to other areas of Yorkshire too, such as Wakefield, Harrogate and York.

According to the Centre for Entrepreneurs, a total of 7,492 businesses were launched in Leeds last year, placing it fourth in the list of most popular UK cities for new businesses. Across Yorkshire, an impressive 38,269 businesses were launched, which is an increase of almost 6 per cent on 2018. That is a bigger increase than the UK as a whole, which saw a rise of 2.8 per cent, with 681,704 businesses created in 2019.

The survey found that five new tech startups were launched every hour in 2019 – 6.6 per cent of all new businesses. However, companies covered every sector and then some – everything from raising llamas and alpacas (10 new businesses) to driving schools (429 new businesses). Seven hundred different industries were covered in all.

We may not be able to help with space if you want to breed llamas, but we can help with flexible workspace for businesses looking to give themselves room to grow. Our Leeds Business Centre offers a range of serviced offices or business services, to help meet the needs of your enterprise.

If office space is needed, we can offer a variety of sizes, fully furnished, along with shared communal areas such as kitchens, showers, meeting rooms, break out areas, a manned reception and even a balcony to enjoy your lunch on! Our reception team can answer calls coming into your business number for you, with a personalised response – giving you the professional appearance you’re after.

All costs are included in one set fee – utilities, business rates, phone lines, broadband – so you don’t have to worry about unexpected expenses. Handily based not far from the city centre, there’s plenty of free parking and also bus routes running past the door – and it’s not far from the motorway for those who need to travel.

For those who don’t need office space we can also offer a mailbox or virtual office facility, and we can hire out meeting rooms if you’re looking for somewhere to catch up with clients and suppliers.

For businesses which also need storage, our self storage centre is located just across the car park from our business centre, making it an ideal double act! Or some businesses choose to operate fully from a storage unit – we can provide power, heating, phone lines and even Wifi – so it’s handy for ‘pick and pack’ type operations looking to update stock inventories as they work.

There’s plenty of space for lorries and deliveries and you can get access to your storage unit whenever you need to, seven days a week. Everything is kept safe and secure with individual pin code and key access and CCTV and remote monitoring. Flexibility is our middle name (well, not really, that would be weird) and we’re happy to scale the size of your unit up or down as needed.

If 2020 is the year you’re going to branch out into a new business, get in touch to find out how we can help.
