Apparently, just a little over a month ago was the best day for listing a home for the greatest chance of a smooth sale. (Sorry if you didn’t meet that deadline – it’s probably all doom and gloom ahead…)
March 17th was the day, according to Emoov – and not just because it was St Patrick’s Day (although admittedly, apparently living near a brewery could add 15% to your property value).
Of course, you probably knew this, and as such your house sale and new home purchase is already well underway!
So now, you need to start looking for the right removal company to help get your precious possessions to your new dream home.
Finding a removal company can sometimes be a task movers leave until the last minute, or don’t give enough thought to. But do you really want to trust everything you own in the world to a company (or individual) you haven’t done your homework on?
As with all industries, the removals’ world does have its cowboys. A good first starting point to finding the right removal firm for you is to check out which companies in your area are BAR registered. The British Association of Removers (BAR) is dedicated to promoting excellence in the industry and members have to follow a strict code of conduct, offering you as the customer the reassurance you will get a quality service.
When you’re speaking to a removal company, does it come across as a professional operation? Do they provide a quote based on information you’ve provided? Do they come out and visit you or can you do a video survey? Do they explain the service they provide and how it works and are they happy to answer any questions you might have? Are they just on one mobile number, or do they have landlines and an office you could visit – you probably won’t need to, but it’s nice to know you could if required!
What about the team who will undertake the physical removal for you? Are they in uniform? A reputable firm should be happy to put your mind at rest on anything you’re unsure about.
Price is obviously a factor, but you need to feel you can trust the company to take good care of your belongings – and to do the job right. We hear horror stories all the time of companies who have failed to turn up on move day, and that’s a stress no one needs!
Think about other options you may want (or find you have) to build into the planning. What happens if your move day becomes a move week, or month? What if you can’t move out of your old home and into your new home on the same day? Can your removals company offer you storage facilities if they become necessary? Either short or longer term.
Do you want a packing service? Some people like to be the one carefully packing all their belongings – for other people, it’s their worst nightmare! We’re happy to offer our packing experts to come along and safely box up your bits and pieces – and we can guarantee they’ll be quicker at it than you, whilst ensuring everything is kept safe and sound with the very best in packaging materials.
As a company with 50 years’ experience moving homes and families, we like to think we’ve learnt a thing or two along the way. Any tricky situation or unusual circumstances and we’ve probably seen it before. So, give us a call, and let’s get you moving! Even if you didn’t get your property listed on 17th March…
