Choosing the right storage unit for you
Here at McCarthy’s we have storage in all shapes and sizes, and with a variety of different means of access.
With units varying from the size of a phone box (not that you get many of those nowadays!), to a tennis court, we can usually find something to meet your requirements.
But how do you decide what size you need? It’s one of the things we’ll help you work out when you speak to us but as an initial guide, here are some things to think about:
- If you’re moving house, or emptying a room or garage, use our handy storage estimator to help to roughly gauge the space you might need: https://www.mjmccarthy.co.uk/storage/our-size-estimator/
- Consider how much you’re going to need access to your things. If you’re not going to need them for a while, you can cram things in a bit more. But if you will need to get to things regularly, then consider leaving room to move around accordingly, without having to unpack the whole unit each time.
- What are you storing? If items are delicate or fragile, obviously you might not want to stack things or piles them in quite so much, so may need a bigger space. Consider adding shelving if that will help you be able to stack more things safely.
- All of our units have 24 hour access, but some have drive up access, meaning you can take a car or van right up to the door of your unit for loading and unloading. For our other units, you can park outside and use our trolleys and lift to move goods around. Consider which would work best for you.
- Will you plan to work in any capacity from your storage unit, or will you be spending a reasonable amount of time there sorting through things? If so, you might want to think about ensuring there is electricity hooked up, and/or WiFi so you can connect devices or tools (or a kettle!) as needed.
And don’t worry – often our customers decide they need a bigger or smaller storage unit as they go along, and it’s normally not a problem for us to provide whatever you need.
Feel free to come and take a look and see what the different sized rooms are like – you’ll be amazed how much you can fit in when they’re packed correctly!
