Q: What is Self Storage?
A: McCarthy’s Self Storage centres are large, secure, storage facilities with the inside laid out like a hotel – corridors with rooms on either side! Our secure rooms are ideal for business and/or personal storage use. For your furniture whilst moving house or re-decorating, for storing excess stock or even just somewhere to keep your Christmas decorations throughout the year! The rooms are available in many different sizes and are all 8 feet high enabling you to utilise all of the space in your room.
Q: What are the rooms like?
A: Constructed of steel, our rooms and lockers are clean, dry and totally secure. For customers storing files we can install shelving to ensure the most efficient use of space.
Q: How private are they?
A: You lock your own room with your padlock and you keep the only key. We also employ a unique PIN code access system so only you or your authorised representatives have access to your room.
This ensures confidentiality and security – essential if you need to store sensitive documents.
Q: How secure are they?
A: Our Self Storage facilities are protected by 24hr electronic security, closed circuit television (CCTV) and central station linked alarms using the BT RedCARE system.
Q: Are the storage units alarmed?
A: Yes. In addition to BT’s Redcare system Each unit is individually alarmed and monitored 24-7. This means in the unlikely event somebody attempts to enter your unit, our monitoring station will be contacted immediately and will investigate the matter straight away.
Q: How big are the units?
A: Our storage units start at 16sqft (roughly the size of a telephone box) and increase in size up to 500sqft plus! If you don’t know what size unit you need don’t worry! Our representatives in store will be able to help you decide exactly how much space you need. Feel free to pop into store for a cuppa and a look around the site to get a better idea of the sort of space you’d be looking at; our friendly staff will be there to guide you at every step.
Q: Can I reserve a unit?
A: Absolutely! We require a £10 reservation fee from you to hold the unit of your choice for up to 28 days. This £10 is deducted from your first bill so there’s nothing extra to pay!
Q: Can I access my room when I want?
A: You have unlimited access to your room during opening hours with your own access code to the building. We do not charge for access. We can also offer out of hours access 24/7 if required.
Q: How long can I stay for?
A: You decide. You may occupy a storage room for a few weeks or as long as you like. Our minimum rental period is 2 weeks and there is no maximum limit, you can store with us for as long as you need.

Q: Is there anything I can’t store?
A: You can store anything you need to as long as it isn’t illegal, flammable or perishable.
Q: What do I need to bring in when I book in?
A: Photo ID, proof of address, payment for your deposit and first months rent by either a credit or debit card, information to set up a direct debit, insurance information (if you are using your own)and a padlock. If you don’t have a padlock we can sell you one, along with other packing materials.
Q: How do I pay?
A: You deposit 2 weeks’ rental as a refundable security deposit and pay on a monthly basis for as long as you require. Our charges are inclusive of fees, rates, lighting and security. There are no hidden extras! We ask that you set up a direct debit when you move in too so that the costs are paid automatically every month.
Q: Are my goods insured?
A: Not automatically. You must confirm you have insurance cover for your goods. Most household contents policies do not cover goods in storage. We can arrange cover for you through Basil Fry, a specialist broker in self-storage insurance for as little as £2.00 per week!
Q: Can you help me move in?
A: Yes we have a removal division that will happily provide a quotation to move your goods in and out of storage. You can of course organize your own removal people and we work with most of the local movers, or feel free to utilise our Man & Van and Van Hire services! On site there is an assortment of easy to use moving equipment at your disposal free of charge. There is also a full range of packing materials (boxes, tape and bubble wrap) for sale in reception.
Q: How flexible are McCarthy’s?
A: Very. Not only can you reserve a space in advance that we can hold for up to a month, but you have the option to increase or decrease your storage space as you require. You will only pay for the space you need. All of the McCarthy’s team have been trained to provide you with expert advice on the size of room that you require and how best to pack your room. Q: It’s time to vacate – how much notice do I need to give?
A: We understand that you can’t always give months and months of notice and things can happen quickly. So we only ask for 2 weeks notice when you’re ready to vacate your storage space.
