About McCarthy’s Removals
McCarthy’s was first established in 1968 by Mick and Margaret McCarthy. We started life as a man and van operator, growing steadily in both transport and then removals and today we are Yorkshire’s largest privately owned removals and storage company still run by Managing Director Mike McCarthy.
Having operated in the Yorkshire region for over 50 years, we now have self storage units in Leeds, Harrogate, York and Wakefield with more in the pipeline.
As of the 1st January 2021 the removals, shredding and archiving businesses transferred into an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) meaning all the employees own 100% of the business. Therefore, everybody you come into contact with at McCarthy’s has a strong personal interest in making your move an absolute success.
Our core values of outstanding quality of workmanship, exceptional customer service and great value for money are still at the heart of everything we do. The workforce consists of a large number of long-standing employees who embody the high standards set by the McCarthy family. The people who helped build the business into what it is today are now part of the EOT.

McCarthy’s are members of the British Association of Removers (B.A.R), awarded with both the British Standards Quality BSEN: 12522 and 8522, which recognises quality removal services.
You would obviously be concerned if your chosen remover suffered financial failure before your moving date. BAR members provide an Advanced Payment Guarantee to their customers. All BAR members are financially vetted and provide the safety net of an APG scheme.

I have used them previously and been very impressed so we didn't even shop around for my mum as I wanted a firm that I could trust and make it as stress free for us as they could. Right from the start the office staff were great. We had a very bumpy ride with our buyers solicitors prior to removals and I would phone Rachel most weeks to see what they had available. She was so patient and understanding with our situation. Gary even set the dining table so my mum would be able to sit and look out into the garden whilst eating. So thoughtful! The whole team at McCarthy's have been very helpful and friendly. Even when our move was delayed it was easy to get re-arranged (using the postponement waiver) The team were quick and careful at loading and unloading and were just nice people to have moving your stuff. The last thing you want is someone to not care and things end up damaged. I would recommend McCarthy's to anyone looking to move house or just put some bits into storage.

We received a great service from the team at McCarthy’s and honestly couldn’t have done it without them. Absolutely amazing job from start to finish. They protected the carpets, bannister and doors at both houses, works tirelessly throughout the day and even held off moving the last of our furniture into our new house while the living room was carpeted. Great experience of what is often referred to as one if the most stressful things you can do. Guys turned up when agreed and quickly got on with the packing and loading. They took good care of all our belongings were courteous and professional throughout. Ours was a 2 day move and they arrived as agreed at the destination address next day. Nothing was too much trouble for them - they just get on with the job. No damages! Excellent service ! Would recommend.
